Ro-ka. stone pot
These pots are an ancestral cooking vessel of Tamil Nadu in southern India. They are hand-made by Indian artisans from locally sourced soapstone boulders.
Soapstone is a naturally occurring metamorphic rock. This abundant material is soft and somewhat easy to carve. In saying this, it takes very skilled artisans many hours to form a single pot. Using a hammer and chisel, with presence and patience, a boulder is transformed into a cooking vessel.
Soapstone has a very high heat retention, keeping your food hot for hours.
These Ro-ka pots have been seasoned using a traditional technique of applying turmeric and castor oil over many consecutive days.
These pots do not come with lids - we recommend sitting a plate or another lid from your kitchen ontop when cooking if needed.
Ro-ka pots are NOT to be heated without a liquid inside. We recommend using them to cook lentils, stews, curries, rice and soups. Any frying or sautéing should be done in a seperate fry pan and then transferred into the Ro-ka stone pot.
